Joseph und Sonja Ströbl-Foundation
We promote road safety
The Joseph and Sonja Ströbl Foundation is an unincorporated, non-profit foundation under the administration of TUM. It is entirely dedicated to road safety. With this in mind, the foundation has been awarding the Joseph Ströbl Prize to individuals for their outstanding journalistic and scientific work for many years under the patronage of the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior.
All award winners since 1991 can be found in this overview.
Sonja Ströbl established the prize - and the foundation as a whole - in 1991 in memory of her husband Joseph Ströbl (1913-1989): The latter's main occupation was managing editor at the Süddeutsche Zeitung and in this position, but also beyond, he campaigned for decades for German transport policy. He was the initiator of the "Kavalier der Straße" and the joint campaign "Sicher zur Schule - Sicher nach Hause", initiated the Süddeutsche Zeitung's traffic parliament and has been a member of the German Road Safety Council since it was founded. The Joseph and Sonja Ströbl Foundation continues this life's work.
